Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting journeys you’ll ever embark on, but it can also feel a bit overwhelming at times. When Heather and I (Emily) talk with couples, one of the first questions they often ask is, “When should we start planning our wedding invitations?” That’s why we created this wedding invitation timeline guide—to make it easier for you to plan this essential part of your big day. With a clear timeline, you can ensure your stationery reflects your love story while staying on schedule.

When to Send Save the Dates

Sending save the dates marks the official beginning of your wedding journey. Typically, save the dates should be sent out six to eight months before your wedding date for local weddings and eight to twelve months in advance for destination weddings. This gives your guests ample time to mark their calendars and make any necessary arrangements. Save the dates also set the tone for your wedding and serve as the first impression of your wedding. Don’t miss our save the date guide for more tips and inspiration!

When to Make Your Wedding Website

Your wedding website serves as a hub of information for your guests. It’s best to create it shortly after sending out your save the dates. Aim to have your wedding website live at least six months before your wedding. This provides guests with easy access to key details like venue information, accommodations, and registry links.

Bridal Shower Events Invitation Timeline

Bridal shower invitations should be sent out four to six weeks before the event. This ensures your guests have enough time to RSVP and make any necessary arrangements. Thoughtful bridal shower invitations set the tone for the event and make your guests feel excited to celebrate with you.

When to Order Wedding Invitations

Wedding invitations are typically sent to print around four months before the wedding date. This allows plenty of time for printing, addressing, and mailing. Since these tasks can be time-consuming, hiring stationery designers like Heather and I can relieve the stress. We take care of every detail—from custom designs that wow your guests to managing printing and mailing logistics.

Wedding stationery designers are usually hired around eight to twelve months before the wedding, but possibly earlier if you are interested in custom save the dates.

P.S. Don’t worry if you’re running a little behind the wedding invitation timeline—we can work together to make something amazing, no matter when you’re starting!

How Long Guests Should Have to RSVP

Set the RSVP deadline four to six weeks before your wedding date. This gives your guests ample time to respond and allows you to finalize the guest count, seating chart, and other logistical details. We can help you navigate this timeline seamlessly, especially if you’re coordinating custom wedding day paper to match your overall wedding brand.
